Legal
Cookie Policy
Every cookie this site can set, what it is for, how long it lasts, and how to change your mind.
This document is an informational template prepared for this website. It is not legal advice and it should be reviewed by a lawyer qualified in New Zealand before you rely on it.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store and send back on later requests. Similar technologies, such as the browser storage this site uses to remember whether you chose the light or the dark theme, work the same way from your point of view: a small amount of information is kept on your own device.
2. Categories we use
- Necessary. Required for the site and the enquiry form to work: the session and the token that protects the form against submissions from other sites, plus the record of your cookie decision. These are always active and are never used for analytics or advertising.
- Analytics. Measurement of how pages are used, so we can see which formats people look at. Set only with your consent.
- Marketing. Advertising and personalisation, including measurement of advertising campaigns. Set only with your consent.
No analytics or marketing cookies are loaded before you choose. At present no third-party measurement or advertising tag is installed on this site at all; the consent mechanism is in place so that none can run without your decision if one is added later.
3. The files
| Name | Purpose | Lifetime | Category |
|---|---|---|---|
joltcrest_cookie_choice |
Stores your cookie decision, including a decision to decline, so you are not asked again on every page. | 180 days | Necessary |
joltcrest_session |
Server session used while you fill in the enquiry form, so the form can be validated and the token checked. | Until you close the browser | Necessary |
csrf (inside the session) |
One-time token that proves the enquiry was sent from this site and not from somewhere else. | Session | Necessary |
joltcrest-theme |
Remembers whether you chose the light or the dark theme. This is browser local storage, not a cookie, and it is never sent to our server. | Until you clear your browser storage | Necessary |
| Analytics cookies | Reserved for measurement of page use. None are set today; if one is added it will appear in this table before it is switched on. | Up to 24 months | Analytics (consent) |
| Marketing cookies | Reserved for advertising and personalisation. None are set today; the same rule applies. | Up to 24 months | Marketing (consent) |
Our own decision cookie is set with SameSite=Lax and is readable only by
joltcrest.com.
4. Google Consent Mode v2
Before you choose, this site sets all four Google consent signals to denied:
ad_storage, analytics_storage, ad_user_data and
ad_personalization. When you make a choice, an update is sent that reflects exactly what
you selected: the analytics category controls analytics_storage, and the marketing
category controls the other three. Declining leaves all four denied.
5. Accepting, declining and changing your mind
The banner on your first visit offers three options of equal weight: accept, decline, or open the settings and choose categories. Declining takes exactly as many clicks as accepting. You can change your decision whenever you like with , which is also permanently available in the footer of every page.
You can also delete cookies in your own browser. In Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari the control is under privacy or site settings, usually described as clearing cookies and site data. Deleting our decision cookie means the banner will appear again on your next visit, because the record of your choice is what the cookie holds.
If JavaScript is switched off in your browser, the settings dialog cannot open - and nothing optional is loaded either, so no analytics or marketing cookies are set.
