Responsible Entertainment Rules
How our programmes are run, who can take part, and what to do if the casino-style theme is not right for your group.
This document is an informational template prepared for this website. It is not legal advice and it should be reviewed by a lawyer qualified in New Zealand before you rely on it.
1. Adults only
Our evening programmes are for guests aged 20+ and over. The client confirms this when sending an enquiry, and we confirm it again in the agreement. Our croupier-hosts and coordinators may ask a guest to confirm their age, and anyone under the age limit will not be admitted to the programme. Family Day is the one daytime format designed for staff and their families - adult-only elements, including anything from our casino-style range, are never combined with it.
2. Chips are props, and there are no stakes
- Chips are symbolic props. They carry no denomination and no value.
- They are not sold, cannot be bought and cannot be topped up during the programme.
- They cannot be staked, and no money or goods are staked in any form.
- They are not exchanged - not for money, not for goods, not for vouchers, and not for prizes of value.
- The outcome of an activity gives a participant no financial or property benefit. If there is a result at all, it is announced on the microphone or printed on a certificate.
- All chips are counted back into our cases at the end of the programme.
3. This is not gambling
Because there is no stake and no prize of value, our programmes are not gambling within the meaning of the Gambling Act 2003 of New Zealand. We do not hold or need a gambling licence, we do not operate an online casino, and we do not take bets of any kind. The roulette, blackjack and poker tables are themed activities run by hosts who teach the rules.
4. Taking part is voluntary
Nobody has to take part in anything. Hosts invite, explain once and move on - they do not persuade, and they do not single people out. There is always somewhere in the room to sit, talk and watch instead, and the photo corner, the music and the dressing are part of the evening whether or not a guest goes near a table or a task station.
5. Running the evening safely
- Alcohol is not part of our programme and is never supplied by us. Drinks are organised by the client or the venue, under the venue's own licence and host responsibility obligations.
- Our crew will pause or end an activity where a guest's behaviour makes it unsafe or uncomfortable for others, and will tell the client's coordinator immediately.
- Activity areas are set up with walking room around them, and cables are protected where they cross a walkway.
- Where a format includes a first-aid point, it is listed in the package contents.
6. If the casino-style theme is not right for your group
For some guests, casino-style activities may be unwelcome - including anyone who has had difficulty with gambling. That is a good reason to choose a different format, and it is not an awkward conversation to have with us. The majority of our catalogue contains no tables at all:
- Clues & Teamwork - quizzes, puzzle rooms, a game show and task circuits.
- Sound & Colour - music and lighting-led evenings.
- Far Places & Seasons - travel themes and seasonal dinners.
- Open Air & Company Days - picnics, family days, sports days and festivals.
- Screen & Spotlight - galas and film-style evenings, which can run with no tables in the room.
Tell us in your enquiry and we will plan the evening without any casino-style element, at no difference in how we work.
7. Information and help
This is general information, not a referral and not a partnership. If gambling is a concern for you or someone close to you, New Zealand has a free, confidential national service: the Gambling Helpline on 0800 654 655, https://gamblinghelpline.co.nz/. It is available whether or not you have anything to do with our events.
8. Questions about taking part
Anything about participation, age checks or adapting a programme for your group: [email protected]. If you want a format changed to remove an element, ask before you sign - it is much easier to plan out than to change on the night.
